Animals of the World Book

Interactive Nursery Rhymes

Find ways to make nursery rhymes come alive. In this example, play items were found to make Little Boy Blue come alive.

Art Activity

Let children choose play objects which are in your home or classroom and draw pictures of them.

Easy Butterfly Craft

Items Needed for each child: 1 coffee filtar, 1 craft stick, 41/2" pipe cleaner, Scotch tape, water colors, paint brush.

Activity: Children paint the coffee filtar with water colors. Tape the pipe cleaner to the craft stick (in the middle of the stick only). After the coffee filtar is dry, scrunch in the middle and attach to the stick with the pipe cleaner.

Dragonfly Craft Project

A dragonfly is an insect which lives near the water. Children can use paints to make a body of water. A picture of a dragonfly can be found online which the children can cut, paste to a heavy piece of paper and glue as a standup on the water.

Bee Hive Craft Project

Children can make a bee hive while learning about bees. Freehand patterns for them to cut out and tape together. Bees can be made from Pom-poms.

Stuffed Animals Dress Up - Pretend Play

Preschoolers and stuffed animals go hand-in-hand! Add baby clothing to the mix and you have an exciting pretend play activity.

Bear Hibernating - Winter Craft Project

Needed for each child: one sheet construction paper, cotton balls, glue, small bear (children can make their own or use a small one they may have in their toys).

Fold a one inch strip and glue to form the cave. Children glue on cotton balls for snow.

Talk about why bears hibernate in the winter.

Provide paper plates and items for children to make a snowman -- after reading The Biggest, Best Snowman by Margery Cuyler.

WINTER RABBIT Book - Interactive

Make the story come to life by making a copy of the key characters from this book and making stands for them; using blue paper for the pond; white pom-poms for snowballs; and a small carrot. Planting Seeds Indoors

Fill a muffin tin or small containers with soil to about the halfway mark. Put 2-3 seeds in each. Cover the seeds with soil. Place markers in each. When spring arrives, you can transplant outside.
