Earth Art Picture


If possible, put the word "earth" into Google search engine and let the children look at pictures of the earth which come up. Ask what shape the earth is and what colors they see. The boys and girls can then use sponges to make green land and blue water on a round piece of construction paper or poster board.

Reindeer Art Project


Have the child cut a triangle out of a sheet of construction paper or lightweight cardboard. Both hands are traced for the antlers and glued on to the face. A red pom-pom can be used for the nose.

Statue of Liberty Crown & Torch


For the torch an image can be copied by doing a Google search and gluing to a heavy piece of rolled up paper. The crown is made from 2 paper plates. Cut out the center of the plates. The 7 triangles are glued inside the two plates.

Underground Ant Tunnels Art Project


Give each child a large sheet of paper, pencil with eraser, ink pad and washable markers or crayons. The children draw underground ant tunnels. To make the ants, the pencil eraser is pressed into a black ink pad.

SURPRISE BOX


Having a surprise box in the classroom can be used for numerous purposes. One can easily be made by making a fun face on the front and cutting an opening in the top of a box.

Mix up flour and water so it is not too thick and not too watery! Give each child a round 6" circle of heavy paper or cardboard. The children can make flat surfaces on the moon and also hills and craters.

Hummingbird Craft Project


Have children draw a hummingbird or print one you find from the internet. Talk about how a hummingbird is the smallest bird, can fly backwards, uses the long beak & tongue to suck nectar and live in cup-shaped nests. Have the children draw and cut out a nest. Cut a slit in the nest so the bird can be inserted.

Learning About Turtles


To show how a turtle's shell protects the turtle, allow the children to make a small turtle from Play-Dough. Put a small container over it and ask them to try and smash the turtle. They cannot. The shell protects it. Now remove the shell and ask them to smash the turtle.

Earth Art Project


On one day children paint a coffee filtar blue with water color. On a second day they dab on green water color. When dry, glue to a black background and add stars. This is a view of earth from outer space.

Pelican Bird Craft Project


Freehand a picture of a pelican and cut out. Explain to children they have huge, straight beaks and a soft pouch underneath to help hold the fish they catch. Children can glue on white feathers and fish in the pouch.

Shaggy Dog Craft Project


Children use their scissors to make this a shaggy dog by cutting on the bottom of the face, body, legs and tail. Shapes are then glued together to make the dog. A leash can be added, if desired.

Spring Flower Craft Project


Needed: 1 sheet construction paper, 1 baking cup, glue, crayons, confetti.

Children place paper confetti inside a small plastic bag and tie with chenille wire to create a beautiful butterfly.

Spring Buds On Tree - Art Project


Give each child a sheet of paper with a brown tree drawn on it. They add the spring buds by dipping a Q-Tip into green paint.

Marble Painting Art Project


Each child needs a marble, washable finger paint, construction paper, a small box.

Place the paper on the bottom of the box. Dip the marble in paint. The child moves the box and watches the marble roll and leave designs on paint on the paper.

Ladybug - Insect Craft


Items Needed for Each Child: White construction paper; markers and/or crayons; 2 brads; glue.

Activity: Cut two 7" circles. Cut one of the circles in half. Freehand a head with antennaes. The children color the ladybug. The head is attached to the body and the wings are attached using the brads.

Astronaut Helmets


After children have a unit on astronauts, mission control, space suits, space station and all -- they can make their own astronaut helmets by using 4 sheets of white construction paper and clear tape.

Let children choose play objects which are in your home or classroom and draw pictures of them.

Easy Butterfly Craft


Items Needed for each child: 1 coffee filtar, 1 craft stick, 41/2" pipe cleaner, Scotch tape, water colors, paint brush.

Activity: Children paint the coffee filtar with water colors. Tape the pipe cleaner to the craft stick (in the middle of the stick only). After the coffee filtar is dry, scrunch in the middle and attach to the stick with the pipe cleaner.

Dragonfly Craft Project


A dragonfly is an insect which lives near the water. Children can use paints to make a body of water. A picture of a dragonfly can be found online which the children can cut, paste to a heavy piece of paper and glue as a standup on the water.

Bee Hive Craft Project


Children can make a bee hive while learning about bees. Freehand patterns for them to cut out and tape together. Bees can be made from Pom-poms.

Paper Mache Animal Craft Project


All kinds of animals can be made with paper mache.

Materials Needed: Small balloon, newspaper torn into wide strips, paste made from 1 part flour and 2 parts water, wide paint brush, tempera paint, construction paper, wiggle eyes and other items for making various animals.

Activity: Blow up a small balloon and tie a knot. Make the paste and stir it good. Using a paint brush or your hands, put the paste on the strips of newspaper and layer them onto the balloon. Let dry. Paint. Create whatever animal desired.

Paper Plate Dinosaur Art & Craft Project


Materials Needed: Paper plates, brad fasteners, glue, crayons, markers or finger paints.

Activity: The child decorates the dinosaur pieces. The tail and head are attached with the brads. The feet are glued to the body. Dot stickers or moveable eyes can be used, if desired.

Porcupine Craft Project


Children color the porcupine and glue on the quills.

Paper Sack Owl Craft Project



Materials Needed: Lunch sack, masking tape, brown construction paper,glue, scissors, newspaper or tissue paper.

Activity: Stuff the paper sack with newspaper or tissue paper. The top of the sack is folded into a V-shape and secured with a square of masking tape. Wings are cut from construction paper and glued to the back side. The child can decorate the owl with crayons, markers or finger paint.
